Blackadder was a tremendous success and enthusiastically received by sell out audiences and local critical acclaim. A magnificent achievement by all concerned, the audiences were rolling with laughter. Beautifully directed by our newbie Director Graham Wood. And particularly his dramatic and powerful interpretation of "Going over the Top" had gasps and tears in the eye.
"Blackadder" needs no introduction to most having been an enormous comedy hit series in the late 1980's. But this work is still fresh and extremely funny, yet pertinent, today.
Depicting in this final series of "Blackadder", in it's unique satirical manner, the events of the First World War ending in 1918 that changed social structures for ever; it is fitting to put this production on stage in 2018.
This stage adaptation is faithful to the original work and characterisation but there is sufficient license to bring surprises and additional content to engage the audience at many levels beyond the enormously funny and edgy comedy that was controversial in some quarters when it was first written.
New to Guilsfield Director Graham Wood and a very experienced cast expect that this will delight and entertain our regular audiences and many more besides.
We hope you find that we do justice to the talents of the original cast including Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie, Tony Robinson, Stephen Fry, Tim McInnerny
